Exactly 10 years since it was last held, Saturday Night Fever racing returns to MSF Superturismo for Round 2 at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit this Saturday (1 June 2024).
Also billed as the SNF Revival, the race was last held in 2015 and will over the weekend see more than 200 drivers competing in 10 individual classes of racing, with highlights being on the 4 premier classes: Super Touring; Vision HKS GT86 x BRZ Racing Cup; Super Production; and Rennplatz Standard Production.
“It’s a phenomenal experience to be able to race after sunset for both drivers and spectators alike, and after Round 1’s close racing action in March, we’re pretty sure the competition is going to be equally if not even more exciting after the two-month break,” said MSF Superturismo Principal Adian Yein Khalid.
“Round 2 will also see a new element being introduced which is the use of only the South Track (2.609km) instead of the entire 5.543km span of the circuit. It’s definitely a recipe for a quicker and more intense racing from start to finish and the beauty of this is spectators can watch the entire race unfold from their seats at the paddock area of grandstand.”
For spectators, eye candy will not only be in the paddock area and action on track but also a huge display of cars and aftermarket spare parts, as well as merchandises on display and sale at the hospitality area.
On track, the Super Touring division is expected to be a heatedly-contested battle involving Mohamed Hafez Kamarudin in a Toyota GR Yaris who won Round 1 with a staggering 53 seconds ahead of another strong contender Umar Abdullah in a Honda Civic FD2R. Also to look out for is a second Honda Civic FD2R piloted by the pair of Wu Junyi Ken and Russell Tan.
In the Vision HKS GT86 x BRZ Racing Cup, eyes will again be on Rennplatz Racing Team’s Ng Teck Ming who won the championship opening round in March with a commanding 32-second lead over his nearest challenger Muhd Khairul Nizam Yaacob of EXN-JR Speed Sucimuci. Also a strong contender and no newcomers to racing will be the pair of Syed Rizal and Fahrizal Hassan who finished third for Fawster SMRT.
Super Production will field the largest number of competitors with no less than 14 drivers vying for top honors. Jonathan Xie in a Honda Fit RS GK5 will however, be the man to beat when he finished a commanding 29 seconds ahead of Teo Hong Zhou in a Honda Jazz GK5. Finishing 3rd in Round 1 and looking to make it a back-to-back visit to the podium is female driver Nurul Husna Nasharuddin in a Honda Jazz. The division will also see the entries of numerous makes and model of vehicles that include the Proton Satria Neo, Toyota Vios, Proton Gen.2, Proton Iriz and Perodua MyVi.
Looking to extend his lead in the overall dominance in the Rennplatz Standard Production division will be Ng Chong Chin in a Honda Jazz GK5, but with a marginal 3-second win in Round 1, one will expect stiff competition from the Piston Project pair of Aiman Asyraaf and Hayden Haikal behind the wheel of a Honda Fit RS GK5. Also to look out for will be a second Honda Fit RS GK5 by Mohamed Hafez Kamarudin representing Fawster 55Twelve. In a class that is dominated by Hondas. Stewart Hine and his Suzuki Swift Sport had been the quickest in Round 1, finishing 4th.
Paddock access tickets for Round 2 are on sale at RM35 and parking is RM10, available at the entrance to the South track on race day (1 June 2024) from 7am to midnight. Entry to the main grandstand is free of charge.
